LowCode Techies — How I Got into Microsoft .✅

In this Issue, I will discuss and share all you need to start out a career in Microsoft Power Platform. We will cover the following:

  1. Why Power Platform
  2. Where Do I Start From?
  3. Testimonials

Just before I share why you should learn Microsoft Power Platform, I will take a few minutes to introduce you to Power Platform. check the video below in case you don’t understand what Power Platform is.

Microsoft Power Platform is made up of 5 Apps and Services

Power Apps

For Building Mobile Applications

Power Automate

For Automating Business Processes

Power BI

For Analysis and Visualization of Data

Power Virtual Agent

For Creating Intelligence Chatbot

Power Pages

For Building Business Websites

One common and central theme about all these tools is that they are all Low-Code/No-Code, meaning, You don’t need to be a programmer before you can use them. They are easy to learn and use. You can create some solutions without writing code (No-Code), and you can create some solutions with little code that is close to writing excel functions (Low-Code).

If you are a Professional developer, you can still learn Microsoft Power Platform and build solutions in record time.

Now, Over to WHY You Should Learn Power Platform

In this video, I mentioned over 8 reasons why you should learn Microsoft Power Apps/Platform.

Here is the summary

  1. Provide timely solutions to business problems
  2. Career Plan B
  3. Amazing Global Learning Community
  4. An alternative route to Tech Bro/Sis
  5. Projected Digital Job Growth
  6. Demand for more Applications to be built in the future
  7. Cheaper License makes it more affordable for SMEs
  8. Competitive Salary

Today, there are tons of resources on the web to learn virtually anything. It is also difficult to recommend a single resource that everyone should follow however, there are contents proven to help you gain significant knowledge of Power Platform in a progressive manner.

Before I share these resources, I will like you to keep the following at heart

1. Learn to Understand

I have studied the learning patterns and habits of a couple of people that I have mentored and coached in the past and I realized that majorities are eager to learn and complete a course without getting the expected knowledge from the course.

Could it be because the courses are not relatable and lack local context? Probably YES, however, you are responsible for doing all you can to get the best from the course. the time invested shouldn’t be a waste.

You can address this challenge by asking questions. while taking the course, reach out to the community with your questions. try to validate your understanding

2. Build to Master

Don’t just learn. practice and build something. no matter how small the Apps can be, make sure you build something. Imagine you take 5 Power Apps courses and from each course, you tried to build a 3-screen application each time. In the end, you have walked through the process of creating applications 5 times. You would have mastered the process and become confident in replicating it.

3. Share for Visibility

While everybody is not an extrovert, everyone wants to get a job. the simple question here is; How will you get a job without an interview? How will you get called for an interview without being noticed? How will you get noticed if you don’t put yourself out there? Even if you are not a social person, let your project do the talking for you. Share it!

4. Teach to Learn Twice

Make attempt to teach people what you know. You belong to a community, schedule a 1-hour event to tell them about a particular topic or to train them on how to do something you just learned.

When you teach, you learn twice!

Sometimes, the commitment to teach a topic to a group of people can help you learn so fast than you would have if you were learning without such commitment.

Learning Resources

Now that you understand the four (4) principles, apply them to the following resources. For a start, I will recommend these three (3) Learning resources.
